Noise

Certain activities that cause noise are not allowed at certain times of the day. There are also general rules for noise in effect at all times every day. These include noises such as:

  • Barking dogs
  • Motorized sport or entertainment vehicles
  • Vehicle idling
  • Refrigeration unit on a parked truck

See the full noise bylaw for details.

There are some exceptions to these rules including:

  • Any parade authorized by council
  • Bells or chimes for church activities
  • Any carnival, midway, circus, sporting event or recreational, musical, entertainment, festival or other event, authorized by council
  • Fireworks authorized by the Fire Chief
  • Normal farming operations (see Farming and Food Production and Promotion Act for more information)
  • Fall fairs operated by an Agricultural Society on property owned by an Agricultural Society

Noise Complaints

You must provide your name and contact information to Bylaw Enforcement. We will then follow up with the complaint. Anonymous complaints are not investigated.

You can file a noise complaint 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

After hours, you should call the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.

Noise Exemptions

You can file an application for noise exemption if you are planning an event which may not follow the noise bylaw.
