Carbon Monoxide Alarms Save Lives

Posted on Wednesday July 26, 2017

For Immediate Release                                                           Wednesday July 26, 2017

 Carbon Monoxide Alarms Save Lives

County of Brant - In 2016, the County of Brant Fire Department responded to 54 carbon monoxide calls and of those calls, 14% had carbon monoxide present in the home. Carbon monoxide alarms save lives. Please make sure you have a working detector in your home.

County of Brant Fire Chief, Michael Seth, said “Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless, tasteless, poisonous gas that is generated when fuel burning appliances malfunction.  The only way people can be alerted to its presence is by having working CO alarms installed. They save lives and are required by the Ontario Fire Code to be installed outside of all sleeping areas.”

The County of Brant Fire Department has partnered with the Hawkins-Gignac foundation to bring awareness about carbon monoxide throughout our community and Canada to protect our families from the “Silent Killer”.  The symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are flu-like which include dizziness, nausea and headache.

For more information about carbon monoxide safety, please visit the Hawkins-Gignac website at http://www.endthesilence.ca or contact your local Fire Department.
