Snow Buddies Needed in Brant

Snow Buddies Needed in Brant

COUNTY Of BRANT, ON– With a promise of a classic Canadian winter this year, the County is encouraging all youth (12 years and older) and adults to consider being a Snow Buddy to a senior citizen or person in need in their neighborhood.

“This year, the County of Brant has a record number of citizens requesting help shoveling driveways and walkways.  Snow and ice can be dangerous for everyone. Keeping sidewalks and driveways free of snow and ice keeps our community safe but this task can be very difficult for some. We need your help.” said Stephanie Delaronde, Recreation Coordinator for the County of Brant.

The Snow Buddies Program desperately needs volunteers. Snow Buddies are matched with a resident in their neighborhood and may receive volunteer hours or a small fee for the snow removal.

The County of Brant’s Snow Removal By-Law requires every occupant of a building and every owner of a vacant lot to clear any accumulation of snow and ice from sidewalks surrounding their property. Failure to do so may cause the municipality to clear away and remove snow and ice at the owner's expense and issue a fine.

“Whenever there is opportunity to exclude enforcement services in resolving an issue through programming is a success story” said Greg Bergeron, Supervisor of Enforcement and Regulatory Services. “The Snow Buddies Program fosters important relationships between those in need of assistance and those providing much needed help.”

To sign up to be a Snow Buddy, please contact Stephanie Delaronde, Recreation Coordinator for the County of Brant at 519.442.1818 or Stephanie.delaronde@brant.ca.
