H1N1 Information
Symptoms
- Similar to the regular seasonal flu
- Fever
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Body aches
- Head ache
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Possibly diarrhea and vomiting, especially in children
- In severe cases the H1N1 virus may develop into pneumonia
How is H1N1 spread?
- Person to person through droplets from coughing or sneezing.
- Touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
How to protect yourself from H1N1
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds. Follow the link for proper hand washing instructions.
- Cleanse hands with 60-90% alcohol based sanitizer. Be sure to check the expiry date on the container.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
How to prevent spreading H1N1
- If sick, limit your contact with other people as much as possible.
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
- Cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve if you do not have a tissue.
- Wash your hands after coughing or sneezing.
