H1N1 Information

Symptoms

  • Similar to the regular seasonal flu
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Head ache
  • Chills
  • Fatigue
  • Possibly diarrhea and vomiting, especially in children
  • In severe cases the H1N1 virus may develop into pneumonia

How is H1N1 spread?

  • Person to person through droplets from coughing or sneezing.
  • Touching contaminated surfaces and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

How to protect yourself from H1N1

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds. Follow the link for proper hand washing instructions.
  • Cleanse hands with 60-90% alcohol based sanitizer. Be sure to check the expiry date on the container.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

How to prevent spreading H1N1

  • If sick, limit your contact with other people as much as possible.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve if you do not have a tissue.
  • Wash your hands after coughing or sneezing.

  • Limit your contact with other people as much as possible.
