Leaf and Yard Waste Collection:
FAQ
Does the County have leaf and yard waste collection and how
does it work?
Currently, the County does not collect yard wastes. Yard wastes, excluding grass clippings, may be delivered to the waste management facilities where
a dropoff area is available for
residents. The scale attendant will provide further directions. An urban area curbside fall leaf collection has been
established. Notices will be posted on the County's website, "public notices" page, as the specific
collection dates are finalized.
How
does the collection work?
The contractor, Emterra Environmental, collects leaves during specific periods as follows:
- You must have your leaf containers at the curbside before 7:00 a.m. on the collection day.
- Kraft paper bags and open top rigid wall containers are the only acceptable curbside containers for leaves. Leaves in plastic
bags will NOT be collected.
- The weight limit per bag/container is 20 KG.
- There is no bag/container limit.
- Loose leaves will not be collected.
- Loose leaves can cause road safety issues and catch basin and storm sewer blockages.
- Placing loose leaves at the curbside is a violation of a by-law.
What if I or miss the collection, or want to dispose of my leaves directly?
For residents who miss the collections or wish to dispose of leaves directly, there will be leaf
dropoff areas available at the Waste Management Facilities from October 1st until
December 15th. Leaves in plastic bags MUST be de-bagged; however leaves in kraft
paper bags can be left in the bags and placed in the bin. Tipping fees will not be
applied for loads of leaves only, through this time period.
Any questions about
the collection can be directed to Emterra Environmental, at 519-770-4711 (1-888-770-4711). Alternatives to collection
of these wastes is to compost them or mulch them into your
lawn.
If I live in the County of Brant, where can I take my waste?
The waste management facilities are only licensed to receive wastes generated by residents
in the County of Brant.
