GRCA Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) is concerned about the use of frozen natural water bodies for on-ice activities such as skating and ice fishing. Recent cold temperatures and early-season snowfall have resulted in the formation of thin ice on local rivers, reservoirs, ponds, and lakes across the watershed. Winter Driving: Snowplows

When the weather gets rough, slow down! The posted speed limit is for ideal conditions, not winter whiteouts.

Remember the golden rule of winter driving: slow down and give space.

Also, be patient around our snow plows! These crews are working hard to keep our roads clear.

  • Do not crowd the plow: Maintain a safe distance (at least several car lengths).
  • Never pass a snow plow: Visibility is limited, and they may be spreading salt or sand.
  • Stay visible: Keep your headlights on.

On Friday, December 5, the County of Brant honoured volunteers from across the community at the 3rd Annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony. The event, held at the TF Warren Group Cainsville Community Centre, included the presentation of awards to 57 individual volunteers and 5 community groups.

Cold notification issued for GEPH region starting December 7

The Medical Officer of Health (MOH) for Grand Erie Public Health is issuing a Cold Notification for the Grand Erie Public Health region (Brantford-Brant and Haldimand-Norfolk), effective December 7, 2025.

A Cold Notification is issued, by the MOH, when parts or all areas of the region are expectedto reach temperatures below -15 ºC, or when wind chill values reach -20 ºC.

The notification will remain in effect until a cancellation notice is issued.

Cold notification Cancelled for GEPH region on December 5, 2025

The cold notification issued by the Medical Officer of Health on December 4, 2025 for the Grand Erie Public Health region has been cancelled as temperatures are no longer forecasted to be -15 C or -20 C with windchill.

Notice - Brant Sports Complex Temporary Ice Closure on Monday, December 8

Please be advised that all drop-in ice programming and ice rentals for Monday, December 8, 2025 at the Brant Sports Complex have been cancelled due to necessary repairs to the facilities refrigeration system.

Halls and rooms will still be available, with the facility closing at 8:00 pm.
