Grand Erie Public Health Welcomes New Board of Health Chair for 2026

Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) is pleased to announce its new Board of Health Chair at the Board’s first meeting of 2026 today.
Maria Kinkel was elected Chair, while John Bell was voted in as Vice Chair for a second consecutive year.
The Board will also be seeking to fill a City of Brantford appointee position after Member, Kevin Davis, stepped down at Wednesday’s meeting.

Extended Water Shut-off

Snowbirds! Do you know about the extended water shut-off?
Consumers who go away for extended periods, or otherwise will not be using water, may request an “Extended Water Shut-off” reduced rate.
Homeowners will be required to shut off their mainline valve within their home and provide GrandBridge Energy with a photo of the meter to confirm the shut off and meter read. Those consumers will then be billed for 75% of the fixed monthly water charge.

Please note that some areas scheduled for garbage and recycling pickup today, January 27, 2026, will not be completed by 5:00 pm. Our collection crews are working diligently and hope to finish by this evening.
If your materials have not been collected by 8:00 pm, you may either:
- Leave them curbside overnight, or
- Bring them in and place them back at the curb by 7:00 am tomorrow for pickup by end of day.

Snow update on January 26, 2026

Hey Brant! We received 6-8 inches or 15-20 cm of snow! The full winter maintenance team was fully deployed and are still working to get to all the streets. This includes 29 full-time Operators and 14 seasonal Operators on rotating shifts. Each Operator has dedicated equipment and routes.
How can you help?
- Remove your parked car from the streets. They are the snowplows’ biggest obstacle

Due to inclement weather, the following registered programs are cancelled today:
- Chair Yoga at the Wilkin Family Community Centre at 10:00 am
- Functional Fitness at Sojourn Church at 4:00 pm
As well, the Seniors Drop-In Centre will be closed for the day.
For all registered programs, participants will be notified of cancellations by email and/or phone and the County of Brant will make every attempt to re-schedule programs.
