Grand River Conservation Authority issues Watershed Conditions Statement - Water Safety

The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has shared the following Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety:
The current weather system crossing the watershed has brought above freezing temperatures and will bring approximately 15 to 20 mm of rain during the early hours of Friday, January 26, 2024. This will result in increased river flows throughout the Grand River watershed due to runoff generated by potential snow melt and rainfall.
No significant flooding is expected with this event....

It is anticipated Garbage and Recycling in some areas of today’s collection will not get picked up by 5:00 pm today. Collection Crews are working diligently and are hopeful to complete collection tonight.
If your material has not been picked up by 8:00 pm, please either leave your materials curbside overnight, or remove and place it back at curbside by 7:00 am tomorrow morning, and it will be collected by the end of day.

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for the County of Brant today, January 16, into tomorrow morning.
Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
