County of Brant Partners with Equal Ground Community Gardens
The County of Brant has been selected to participate in a pilot project to help expand the Equal Ground Community Gardens program.
“Equal Ground Community Gardens has been initiating community gardens in the area since 2009,” said Jake Cerson, Community Development Coordinator for the County of Brant. “They provide assistance and support to a vast network of community garden projects. Currently, they support and maintain a total of 33 active community gardens throughout the City of Brantford including 15 garden sites found in neighbourhood parks and public spaces.”
Due to the uncertainly of COVID-19 and community gardens, Equal Ground Community Gardens has developed a new plan which would seek to engage residents in the County of Brant to grow gardens on their properties.
Equal Ground Community Gardens will accept registrations from County of Brant residents, on a first come, first serve basis and while supplies last. Free seeds, plants and an online training video will be provided to help participants grow their own healthy food. As well, participants are asked to pledge to donate a portion of what they grow to the local food bank enhancing food access in the County of Brant.
