Building Construction Complaint Investigations

Upon receipt of a bona fide complaint regarding illegal construction or use activity, an inspector will investigate. An online complaint must be received by the Building Division to initiate an investigation. Matters involving alleged unsafe conditions may be prioritized to trigger more immediate action by the Building Division.

Complainant information is held in strict confidence as regulated by the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This legislation protects a complainant’s name, phone number and other identifying information. You should be aware that contraveners may draw their own conclusions about the origins of a complaint against them.

Based on the evidence obtained, an inspector, alone or in consultation with others, will determine if a material contravention of an assigned regulation has occurred, and who the party responsible is.

If you believe that there is a violation in your neighbourhood or near your business, submit a Building Construction Complaint online below.
