Sewage System Maintenance Program
A Private Sewage System Maintenance Inspection Program has been implemented within certain areas of the County of Brant.
The main purpose of the program is to protect the quality of Ontario's drinking water and environment by identifying malfunctioning onsite sewage systems that may be contributing to the contamination of source water.
Your septic system may be assessed as a significant threat to municipal drinking water sources if you:
- have a septic system located within 100 metres of a municipal well
- are in the most vulnerable part of the municipal well's two-year time-of-travel area, or
- are located in an Issue Contributing Area
Property owners will be notified and must retain the services of a qualified person who works with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, or as an Architect or Professional Engineer.
The qualified person must complete an inspection report and provide an inspection certificate outlining the condition of the sewage system.
