Property Standards
The Property Standards Bylaw (PDF) and Yard Maintenance Bylaw (PDF) set standards for maintenance and occupancy of properties in the County.
Citizens can submit a property standards complaint or yard maintenance complaint to the County of Brant if they notice a property is not following the guidelines in the Bylaws.
Common complaints include
- Long grass
- Debris, garbage, abandoned refrigerators and freezers in a yard
- Improper storage and disposal of refuse
- Sewage discharge and roof drainage
- Trees, vegetation and the branches, limbs and parts thereof which create an unsafe condition due to decay, disease or being damaged
- Structures, fences and retaining walls not in good repair
- More than two unlicensed and inoperative vehicles in a yard
- Unkept pools and ponds
- Improper maintenance of buildings and structures - structural capability, fire damage and prevention, foundations, exterior walls, doors and windows, interior structures and surfaces, plumbing systems, heating and mechanical systems, electrical systems, recreational facilities and vacant buildings
