Sidewalk Snow Removal
The Snow Removal Bylaw (PDF) requires every occupant of a building and every owner of a vacant lot to clear any accumulation of snow and ice from sidewalks surrounding their property. If you fail to do so, the municipality may clear and remove snow and ice at the owner's expense and charge a $105 fine.
As a resident, you are responsible for the removal of snow, slush and ice from the sidewalk in front of, alongside and behind your property within twenty-four (24) hours after the accumulation has ended.
The Sidewalk Snow Removal Bylaw (PDF) requires every owner or occupant of a building and every owner of a vacant lot to clear any accumulation of snow, slush or ice from the sidewalks surrounding their property. If you fail to do so, the municipality may clear and remove snow, slush and ice at the owner's expense which is subject to an administration fee. The municipality may also issue a Provincial Offence Notice.
Even a small amount of snow, slush or ice can be dangerous for pedestrians and the sidewalks must be continually maintained to be free of slippery surfaces.
Sidewalk Snow Removal Tips:
- Do not deposit or blow snow, ice or slush onto the street or roadway as this can create a significant hazard
- Do not move or relocate snow, slush or ice on the highway
- Do not deposit snow, slush or ice in a way that blocks visibility or fire hydrants
