Cannabis and the County of Brant
The County of Brant's Decision Regarding Allowing Cannabis Retail Stores |
The Council of the County of Brant voted to opt-in and allow cannabis retail stores in the County of Brant. We thank the public for their feedback throughout this process.
On Monday, December 10, 2018 at 7:00 pm, the Corporate Development Committee met (at the Council Chambers located 7 Broadway St. W., Paris) and as part of the agenda, County of Brant staff presented a report on Cannabis. You can also watch the Corporate Development Committee meeting on YouTube.
Your opinion is important to us! An online survey was available between Tuesday, December 11, 2018 to Monday, December 17, 2018 to collect public opinion. Of the 1214 respondents, 66% responded in favour of allowing cannabis retail stores in the County of Brant.
On Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 7:00 pm, the Council of the County of Brant met (at the Council Chambers located at 7 Broadway St. W., Paris) and as part of the agenda, County of Brant staff presented a second report on Cannabis. You can also watch the Council meeting on YouTube.
The Council of the County of Brant met on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 5:00 pm to discuss Cannabis retail stores in the County of Brant. The meeting took place in the Council Chambers, 7 Broadway St. W. Paris. As always, the public were welcome to attend the Council meeting. Are there cannabis stores in the County of Brant or coming to the County of Brant? |
In January 2020, the County of Brant Council approved a Retail Cannabis Policy.
To date, the County of Brant does not have any licensed retail cannabis stores.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is an Ontario provincial regulatory agency reporting to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming and horse racing sectors and cannabis retail in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.
In order to operate a cannabis retail store in Ontario, you must apply to the AGCO for both a Retail Operator Licence (as an individual) and a Retail Store Authorization (for each retail location you intend to open.)
