Agricultural Advisory Committee
The purpose of the Agricultural Advisory Committee (AAC) is to provide input to County Committees and Council with advice and comments on rural planning act applications, major policy initiatives and a various range of agricultural issues that impact the County of Brant.
Such matters may include but are not limited to Provincial plan and policy conformity, Official Plan review, and issues related to Normal Farm Practices, Minimum Distance Separation and Nutrient Management. The AAC meets monthly to comment on any Provincial or County Initiatives involving Agriculture. The AAC is also circulated current planning applications at meetings for comment which are provided to the Planning and Development Committee and Council to assit with local land use decision related to Agriculture. Rural and Agricultural policy updates are also shared with the AAC in relation to the County Official Plan and/or Zoning By-Law. Source Water Protection legislation and regulations are also shared with the AAC. This Committee acts as a liaison between the County and the County of Brant farmers, and provides a forum for discussion and coordination of agricultural initiatives to advance the County’s strategic plan for agriculture through programs with other community group and agencies.
The AA’s role is advisory and consultative and acts as as the County of Brant’s Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) as per Section 8 of the Planning Act relating to various planning matters such as commenting on changes in Provincial legislation or providing input on local Municipal policy making.
Agricultural systems and the Agri-food network is an integral part of the County of Brant’s economy and landscape. The AAC is key to assisting Council to preserve agricultural lands and in managing responsible rural development.
