Energy Management Plan

Baseline Comparison of GHGs

Public agencies play an important role in helping Ontario meet its conservation targets and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The province's Long-Term Energy Plan has set a conservation target of 30 terawatt hours in 2032. This is equivalent to more than all the power used by the City of Toronto in 2012! Public agencies can play an important role in meeting this target.

Energy reporting and conservation planning helps public agencies

  • Identify best practices and energy-saving opportunities
  • Evaluate results by comparing to similar facilities across the province
  • Assist in setting goals by providing a benchmark
  • Measure improvement over time

Energy reporting will also inform the Ontario government about energy use by public agencies. The information will help Ontario develop and improve policies and programs in the future.

GHGs per capitaPublic agencies must

  • Report energy consumption data annually
  • Develop five-year energy Conservation and Demand Management plans which must be updated every five years

As of July 1, 2013, public agencies must report their energy consumption data annually.

Public agencies will need to develop five-year Energy Conservation and Demand Management plans. These plans must be updated every five years, beginning in 2019.
