Community Highlight - June 16

Will Ratelband, Community & Family Services Coordinator for the Brantford & Paris Salvation Army.

will and crew from the salvation army parissalvation army paris

The Salvation Army is an incredibly important resource for our communities, especially during this time. We want to give our heartfelt thanks to all those involved in running and supporting our local Salvation Army.

We want to thank Will Ratelband for sharing more information on the Salvation Army located in Paris and serving the County of Brant:

What are you doing to serve the community?

During this covid-19 pandemic, the Salvation Army Paris Food Bank is reaching out to our most vulnerable citizens in Brant County through delivery or in person. Who is this? Those who have the covid-19 virus, the isolated, those who live alone, the elderly, immune compromised and then anyone else who is in need of food assistance no matter their age or situation. Many more people have lost their jobs since March and will need our services moving forward. We are able to deliver should individuals not be able to make it out to our Food Bank or who do not feel comfortable in doing so. Coming to a Food Bank can be a very difficult to do. We are here to show you the utmost respect and dignity as we try to assist you.

In addition, if you know someone (maybe in your family) who needs help, please do not hesitate to call us should you need assistance. We are here also to support you in this process.

Since April, we have partnered with Brant Food for Thought offering Fresh Food Boxes for residents across Brant County. Boxes contain fruits and vegetables, milk, eggs and yogurt. You can contact us sending us by sending a message on our Facebook page at The Salvation Army Brantford & Paris Community & Family Services.

In addition, we are working with two other foods banks - the Burford Community Food Bank (in Burford) and Cedarview Church (in Paris) supplying them with food supplies so they can reach out to those that are in need. If you need food assistance, the Salvation Army Paris Food Bank is located at 25B Dundas Street West in Paris. We are open on Mondays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m.

Our emergency Food hotline is 519-442-3432 or 519-752-7814. Please feel free to email me also at william_ratelband@can.salvationarmy.org for immediate assistance.

What services do you have available?

We provide emergency food assistance to all those who are in need all year round. Individuals and families who are struggling and are finding it difficult to make ends meet. We provide non-perishable, perishable and frozen product. Outside of food bank services, we also run Income Tax Clinics during March and April, back-to-school backpacks and supplies as well as an assortment of programs such as anger management, budgeting and cooking classes.

How do people get a hold of you if someone was interested in your service or if they were interested in volunteering?

Please visit our website at https://www.salvationarmybrantford.ca and submit an application or by emailing myself at william_ratelband@can.salvationarmy.ca.

The most immediate need to get involved is the Paris wide Food Drive. Please sign up by going to http://parisfooddrive.com. This is a community wide effort that includes 6 churches and two community effort.

You can also donate on-line if you are able to access food at https://www.salvationarmybrantford.ca/donatefinancial.html .

Please stay safe during this challenging time.

Food donations can also be dropped off at Sobeys or No Frills in Paris.
