Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future generations.
Cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. The conservation and protection of historic places and natural resources is an opportunity to discover stories, people and places that bring us closer together. The heritage sites in the County of Brant belong to all peoples, past, present and future.
Come explore, share, and remember with us!
Adelaide Hoodless Homestead: The home of the co-founder of the International Women's Institute & co-founder of the YWCA. Visit the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead website.
Downtown Paris: Lovingly referred to as ‘The Prettiest Little Town in Canada’, Paris is the home of the Paris Wincey Mills Co., The Arlington Hotel, and the site of the world's first long distance telephone call by Alexander Graham Bell to his father.
Malcolm's Mills: This is the location where Canada last stood as a nation against a foreign invading power. This National Historic Site is now a peaceful green space and cemetery with memorial plaque at the centre of the Oakland community.
The Grand River Watershed: The Grand River and its major tributaries - the Conestogo, Eramosa, Nith and Speed rivers - were designated Canadian Heritage Rivers in 1994. The Grand River valley has been home to Indigenous peoples for more than 10,000 years. The Six Nations of the Grand River and the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation have a strong presence to this day. The area's rich history is reflected in the watershed's historic sites and artifacts: dams, mills, canals, unique bridges, historic homes, archaeological sites and more. Visit The Grand River Conservation Authority website for more information
