Sunny Hill Park

The County of Brant officially celebrated the grand reopening of the Sunny Hill Park playground in St. George yesterday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and cheque presentations. The event featured remarks from Mayor David Bailey, along with representatives from the St. George Lions Club and Kal Tire.

Generous community contributions helped make the project possible, including a $25,000 donation from the St. George Lions Club and a $10,000 contribution from Kal’s Replay Fund, which supports the use of recycled rubber materials in local playgrounds.

“This playground will be a place for people of all ages and abilities to come together, play, and connect,” said Mayor David Bailey. “We’re incredibly grateful for the community partnerships that helped bring this accessible and inclusive space to life.”

The third accessible playground in the County of Brant, Sunny Hill Park offers a welcoming space where children of all abilities can play side by side. Many of the elements - highlighted below - promote inclusive play, with enhanced features that distinguish the playground, including resilient rubber surfacing and ramped access throughout the play area. The recycled rubber surfacing—made from approximately 1,000 passenger tires, or 22,000 pounds of recycled rubber—was proudly supported by Kal’s Replay Fund.

Key improvements include:

  • 2,588 sq. ft. of resilient rubber surfacing for safe, easy travel between features
  • Ramped walkways connecting the play area and surrounding paths
  • Three solar post lights providing ambient lighting for vandalism prevention

Play Features for All Ages and Abilities

The new playground offers a wide range of inclusive and engaging play elements, such as:

  • Aeroglider – 12-person sway glider with 5’ turning radius for wheelchairs
  • Unity RockR – large saucer-shaped spring toy for group play
  • Cozy Cocoon – sensory-friendly space for children needing a calming break
  • Communication Board – helps visitors of all abilities communicate through words and images
  • Inclusive swings, garden wall, maze panel, telescope, and more
  • Separate preschool and school-aged play areas with slides, climbers, and creative play panels

The County of Brant is proud to provide spaces like the Sunny Hill Park playground that promote physical activity, creativity, and social connection. Playgrounds are vital for improving mental health, encouraging outdoor activity, and fostering friendships within the community.
