Meadow and Tree Maintenance at Watt's Pond

Please note the County of Brant is conducting routine meadow maintenance for meadow habitat preservation at 816 Watt’s Pond (Hartley Ave).
General tree clean up and maintenance will also occur in the coming weeks to address hazardous trees and invasive species along Watts Pond.
Natural meadows are an important feature of our biodiversity and natural heritage, offering urban habitat for rare bird species as well as many pollinating insects that need meadows and open grassland to thrive.
Unlike rural meadows, which experience natural wildfires or agricultural grazing to maintain them as grasslands, urban meadows need help to control invasive plants and prevent them from turning into forests over time.
Prior to today’s work, habitat sweeps for wildlife were conducted and proper tree preservation occurred.
Routine maintenance helps reduce invasive species spread and maintains our natural habitats.
The County of Brant is committed to protecting our local meadows caused by Invasive Insects and Plants.
