Winter Waste Collection
Please do not place your garbage bags or bins on top of or behind snowbanks. Here's why:
- Safety First: Snowbanks are a major slip and fall hazard for our dedicated collection crews.
- Accessibility: It's difficult for collectors to see and safely reach items buried in or on top of high snow.
- Avoid Missed Pickups: Bags on snowbanks can get blown away, freeze to the snow, or get accidentally buried by snowplows, leading to them being missed.
Here's what you CAN do:
- Place items at the end of your driveway at ground level, ensuring they are set back from the curb or road edge to help prevent bins from being knocked over or buried during snow clearing operations.
- On windy days, secure all items to prevent litter and secure loose items in the recycling bins; weigh down items, don't overfill the bin, and condense materials. Lids are available for the large (22 gallon) blue boxes.
- Ensure bags are visible. Consider using black or green bags instead of white ones, which blend in with the snow
- Put your waste out by 7 a.m. on your collection day (rather than the night before) to prevent items from freezing to the ground or being buried by overnight plowing.
