Swimming at the Paris Community Pool

We want everyone to have a safe and fun time at the pool! To help with that, we use wristbands and supervision guidelines for kids based on their age and swimming ability.

These rules follow Ontario’s health regulations and are in place to make sure all swimmers—especially young ones—stay safe while enjoying the water.

Red Wristband - Ages 0 to 5
  • Little swimmers must stay in the shallow end, within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian (age 15+) at all times.
  • A parent or guardian is needed for every 2 children (2:1), even if they’re wearing lifejackets.

Yellow Wristband - Ages 6 to 9
  • Children 6 to 9 get a yellow band and must swim in the shallow end under direct supervision and within arm’s reach.
  • Supervision ratios:

    • 2:1 – Without lifejackets

    • 4:1 – If all children are wearing lifejackets

  • Kids in this age group can try the Facility Swim Test. If they pass, they’ll earn a green wristband and can swim more freely!

Green Wristband - Ages 6 to 9 (passed swim test)
  • Kids who pass the swim test can swim anywhere in the pool without needing to stay close to a guardian.
  • A parent or guardian (15+) still needs to stay in the facility.

Blue Wristband - Ages 10 and up
  • Swimmers 10 and older can swim in all areas of the pool.
  • Children under 12 must have an adult (15+) in the facility with them.

What Parents & Guardians Need to Know

  • Direct supervision means being within arm’s reach and ready to help.

  • All supervising adults must be at least 15 years old.

  • Proper swimwear is required—no street clothes, workout gear, or undergarments.

About the Facility Swim Test

To swim on their own, children aged 6 to 9 must pass our swim test:

  • Swim two full widths of the pool non-stop using any stroke, with consistent movement and comfort in the water.

Lifeguards may retest swimmers anytime to make sure they’re still swimming safely.

For any questions, just ask a lifeguard or pool staff—we’re here to help you and your family enjoy the pool safely!
