Help the County of Brant stay beautiful and our roads clean!
The Adopt-A-Road program is a public service for volunteers to assist with beautification activities along our roads. Here's how it works:
- Choose a section of road, typically 1 to 5 kilometers in length. Are there any potential pedestrian safety/visibility issues with this site? Is there another Adopt-A-Road group in this area
- Commit to at least 3 clean ups per year, between April 15 and November 15. Work must not occur on long weekends or during peak traffic hours or any other times as specified.
- All participants are required to sign the County of Brant Adopt-A-Road agreement, review the Safety Guidelines for Volunteers, review the Participation Checklist and view the County of Brant Adopt-A-Road Safety video:
- The County will erect signs at either end of the adopted road to recognize the group’s efforts. There will be no cost to the Adopt-A-Road group.
- The County of Brant will loan up to 15 safety vests to the group.
- 125 garbage bags (1 box) provided initially. More will be provided if needed.
- A bundle of flag markers to mark large, heavy or potentially hazardous items will be provided initially. More will be provided if needed.
- Proposed location for placement of full garbage bags. Groups may also deliver bags to the nearest roads yard, if possible.
Volunteer requirements:
- Individuals under 12 years of age are not permitted on the worksite unless special arrangements have been made with the County of Brant Adopt-A-Road representative.
- Youths (12-18 years of age) require signed permission from a parent or guardian.
- One adult over 19 years of age is required for every five/six youths
Scheduling your clean-up session:
- Work during daylight hours only, no sooner than one hour after sunrise and no later than one hour before sunset.
- No work is to occur on long weekends, during peak traffic hours, during the County’s winter maintenance season November 16 to April 14, or any other times as specified.
- No work is to occur during bad weather conditions such as rain, fog or lightning.
- Volunteers must arrange a meeting location and then carpool to the worksite.
- Volunteers must have a cell phone available in case of an emergency.
- Volunteers must establish an adult Site Supervisor (19 years of age or older). There should always be one Site Supervisor for each crew (five/six workers).
- Volunteers must have received the safety training and should review the safety rules prior to heading to the worksite.
