Message from Lisa Anderson, Brant OPP Commander |
I am pleased to present the 2020-22 Action Plan for Brant County Detachment. This Plan addresses our operational priorities and our desire for continuous improvement in community safety. I believe it is of the upmost importance that community members and stakeholders are able to see how our long term goals align with their own and how we plan to work together to not only address critical public safety issues but also work in concert for the well-being of our community. This is in line with our enduring OPP vision; Safe Communities...A Secure Ontario. Throughout this Plan you will see both Provincial and local priorities. The local priorities are addressed in each of our primary Commitments. These local priorities have been identified through consultation with our community stakeholders, our Police Services Board and our Operational Analyst as:
We believe by focusing on these common themes within our Commitments, we will be able to have an even greater impact on community safety and well-being in the County of Brant. Currently we see significant trends in community safety that continue to revolve around youth, seniors and family. For example, youth represent close to 40% of our calls for service involving mental health crisis and they also represent 35% of our victimization with sexual offences (2019). Seniors represent the second highest age group for mental health crisis and are our fastest growing population segment in crime victimization (2019). We also see our most significant increases in violent crime involving domestic and family violence. All of these examples highlight the need to intertwine discussions of public safety with community well-being as enforcement alone will not address the root causes. For these reasons, we are committed to collaborate with our community partners to develop co-response models that focus on prevention, harm reduction and risk intervention strategies to improve the overall well-being of our communities. We also remain open to, and respectful of, cultural differences and embrace our opportunities to build mutually effective relationships to enhance diversity and inclusion within our community. The OPP has also launched its 2020-2022 Strategic Plan that is available on www.opp.ca. The OPP has a new mission statement, new core values and three main priorities; our people, our work and our communities. Our people - we will support them to be their professional best and identify opportunities to enhance the experience of our frontline officers. Our work - we will empower our members to deliver the best service to our community. Our community - we will partner and build relationships with a shared vision of safety and well-being. I look forward to working with everyone over the next few years to achieve all of our mutual goals for public safety and well-being in the County of Brant. |
