What is Carbon Monoxide?
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that is colourless, odourless and tasteless. It is known as the "silent killer". When burning fuels like natural gas, propane, heating oils, coal and wood are not completely combusted they cause CO gas. Our carbon monoxide bylaw requires owners of homes to install a carbon monoxide detector.
See the full carbon monoxide bylaw.
Property Owners Must:

- Maintain carbon monoxide detectors in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
- Do not disable a carbon monoxide detector so as to make it inoperable - this is against the law.
Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors:

- For further details contact your Fire Prevention Officer.
All Carbon Monoxide Detectors Must Have:
- An alarm that can be heard from all bedrooms.
