You can deliver your yard waste, excluding grass clippings, to the waste management facilities. Applicable tipping fees apply and can be found in the fees and charges schedule.
Instead of disposing of this type of waste at our facilities, you can also compost them or mulch them into your lawn.
Treasure Your Leaves |
Mulched or shredded leaves are an excellent source of nutrients and protection for your lawn and garden. Mulch helps retain moisture by reducing soil’s exposure to sun and slowing evaporation. It chokes out weeds, too. For best results, shred leaves when they are dry. Push your mower slowly over areas where there are lots of leaves; you may have to run over them twice. Only a sharp mower blade is necessary, but a mulching blade available from your local hardware or garden store can make the job even easier. For more information on composting see below (page 33). Urban Area Yard Waste Curbside Collection Program
Yard waste curbside collection is offered to Residential Properties within Urban Areas (click on Urban Areas for map).
Collection Frequency - two collections in the months of May and November and one collection in the months of June, July, August, September and October.
Collection Schedule - Materials are to be set out by 7:00 AM on your regular collection day, due to the fluctuating volume of yard waste set out for each collection week, collection of material may not occur on your regular collection day but will be completed by the Saturday of that week. Refer to the Annual County of Brant Calendar which was delivered to your address or to the digital copy of the Calendar on the Garbage and Recycling webpage.
Set Out Requirements, Acceptable Materials & Not Acceptable Materials
If you miss collection or want to dispose of your yard waste directly, there are leaf drop-off areas available at the waste management facilities. Material in plastic bags must be de-bagged but material in Kraft paper bags can be left within the bags and placed in the bin. From October 1 to December 15, tipping fees are not applied for loads of leaves only.
