The Mount Pleasant Drinking Water System which services properties in the County of Brant and the Tutela Heights area of Brantford.
The County owns and operates the municipal drinking water system and will continue to provide water to properties in the Tutela Heights area until the City of Brantford is able to offer service. Through its Master Serving Plan, the City of Brantford has identified that it will provide water to the lands in the Tutela Heights area within their 5-year time horizon.
Municipal water systems are designed to primarily provide sufficient water for the necessities of indoor water use (drinking, cooking, bathing, and sanitation), some outdoor water use, and fire suppression. Further, Provincial legislation limits the amount of water the Mount Pleasant Drinking Water System can provide. This limit is based on the capacity of the groundwater wells to produce water, the process train to treat the water, and available storage.
Municipal water systems are not designed for significant outdoor water use. Unfortunately, last summer excessive outdoor water use from the water system seriously compromised the system’s capability to meet the basic needs of indoor water use and fire suppression. This resulted in a ban on the outdoor use of water. A three-tiered conservation program is being introduced to help share available water for essential uses amongst all consumers. Implementing the strict conservation measures will eliminate the need for a ban on outdoor water use.
The Current Level for Outdoor Water use is GREEN.
