The County of Brant is committed to providing a safe and healthy community.  There are many initiatives that the County is working on, please click to expand below.

 Brantford-Brant Community Drug Strategy

The strategy outlines recommendations that aim to:

• Delay or prevent substance use
• Keep individuals safe and healthy while respecting their unique choices
• Ensure individuals have access to timely, adequate services and are treated with dignity and respect
• Re frame addiction from a criminal justice issue to a public health issue

From the beginning, the Brantford-Brant Community Drugs Strategy has been a community effort; countless individuals provided thoughtful and critical feedback. This strategy will serve as a roadmap to work together.

A four pillared approach ensures planning and actions around substance use are done in a holistic and integrated way.

Community and Safety Well-Being Plan  (CSWP)

The County of Brant is developing its Community Safety and Well-Being Plan as required by the new legislative amendments to the Police Services Act. This will be undertaken in a collaborative manner through an Advisory Committee, community partners and community members. The Ministry of the Solicitor General has given municipalities until January 1, 2021 to prepare and adopt their CSWP. Due to Covid-19, this deadline has been extended to July 1, 2021.

What is a Community Safety & Well-Being Plan?

Developing a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan (CSWP) is about working together to ensure the right services get to the right people at the right time. It involves an integrated approach to service delivery by working with a wide range of agencies and organizations (including but not limited to local and regional government, police service, public health and mental health providers, education, social services, community and custodial services for children and youth).

A CSWP involves identifying risks and proactively developing and implementing evidence-based strategies and programs to address local priorities related to crime and complex social issues.

The goal of the CSWP is to support and promote sustainable communities where everyone feels safe, has a sense of belonging, access to services and where individuals and families are able to meet their education, health care, food, housing, income, social and cultural needs.
