Brant Safe Streets
We are all responsible for safe driving habits such as staying focused, obeying the speed limit, giving space to other vehicles and acting as roadway role models. Together, we can calm traffic.
Brant Safe Streets engages the community to create safer roads for everyone! We want you to get home safely and we need your help.

‘Kids at Play' signs
If you would like a "Slow Down Kids at Play" sign for your yard, visit the Paris Customer Service Office or the Burford Administration Office to pick one up.
Join the Pace Car program
The Pace Car program is a locally delivered, nation-wide program that focuses on speed reduction in the community, especially in school zones and pedestrian-dense areas. The Pace Car program seeks out community members to:
- drive the posted speed limits
- act as a role model to other drivers
- display the Pace Car emblem on your car window.
To join the Pace Car Program, complete the electronic Pace Car Supporters Pledge form. Once the pledge form is received, we will mail you an official Pace Car emblem that you can proudly display on your car window.
Many Pace Cars work to calm traffic throughout a neighbourhood. The more people who participate, the better it works!
Submitting Your Mobile Brant Safe Streets Request
You can submit your Brant Safe Streets Request for a specific road by filling out the request form:
- Mobile Brant Safe Streets System Request form (Online)
- Mobile Brant Safe Streets System Request form (PDF)
Roads staff will follow up with each resident after a submission is made to outline the next steps. The roads department will investigate recent studies to determine if updated numbers are required; at which point a tracking system will be deployed for a period of time to determine if traffic calming measures are needed. There will be a follow-up contact to discuss the findings once the data has been reviewed and a determination has been made.
Temporary Traffic Calming Measures
Speed Hump |
Raised pavement areas placed across the road. They are generally 3 to 4.5 metres long measured in the direction of travel and are typically 10 centimetres high. Speed humps are very distinct from the shorter "speed bumps" found in many parking lots. |
Speed Cushion |
A raised area of the road, similar to a speed hump, but does not cover the entire width of the road. The spacing is designed to allow larger vehicles, such as emergency vehicles, to travel between the cushions without difficulty, whereas light vehicles will have at least one side of the vehicle deflected upward.
|
Centre Knockdowns or In Road Flexible Bollards |
The flexible road panel is designed to be installed on the road and can effectively raise driver awareness in areas of high pedestrian traffic. It is a simple, effective and inexpensive way to reduce speed of vehicles by 5 to 20 km/h without slowing down emergency vehicles. If struck by a vehicle, the sign folds upon impact then returns to its initial position. |
