Water Meters

A water meter is required for any home or business connected to the municipal drinking water system. Water meters measure the amount of water used and are used to determine water and wastewater fees.

Responsibilities

The County of Brant is responsible for all water meter and remote maintenance.

The homeowner is responsible for:

  • All inside plumbing, including pipes, shut off valves, and the water service lines underground from the curb stop into the home.
  • Ensuring the pipes and water meter are kept in a manner that prevents freezing.
  • Keeping the water meter accessible for readings and maintenance requests. Failure to provide adequate access to the water meter could result in additional charges until access is granted.

Builders and contractors are responsible for:

  • All new buildings in the County of Brant's municipal drinking water systems are required to purchase and install an assigned water meter.
  • Required meters must be ordered and picked up at a minimum 4 weeks prior to closing.
  • Builders/contractors are also required to book an appointment for County staff to inspect the meter and install the remote prior to closing.

Purchasing a Water Meter

Water Meter's can be purchased online through the Water Meter Purchase form or contact the County of Brant Public Works division.

Leaks and other concerns

If the recorded water use changes suddenly for no obvious reason, contact GrandBridge Energy so it can be investigated right away.

If you suspect a leak, please follow these steps:

  • Turn off all water-consuming appliances inside and outside your home.
  • Read your meter. If the red triangle on your meter is spinning, water is flowing through the meter.

If there is a leak at the water meter, please contact the County of Brant right away.
