Brant Transit

Let’s talk Brant Transit!

Brant Transit is the County’s pre-booked, shared-ride, public transportation service. Brant Transit is offered at a nominal fee in comparison to other transit options and therefore requires riders to be flexible when booking and using the service.

Are you a Brant Transit user? Or, are you considering using Brant Transit? We would like to take a moment to remind riders of the service that Brant Transit provides, as well as important service details.

Brant Transit is not a specialized or paratransit service

Brant Transit is accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. However, it is important to note that specialized or paratransit services may be necessary for some riders. Specialized or paratransit services are designed specifically for individuals who are unable to use public transit due to a disability. These services are more personalized and flexible to accommodate the specific needs of passengers with disabilities. These services also require a registration and approval process prior to being able to access this service.

Brant Transit is not a Taxi or Uber

The difference between Brant Transit and taxis or Ubers is that your ride may be shared, and you may not be driven directly, non-stop to your requested location. Just like a public bus, there may be additional pickups or drop-offs along the way, and you may be in the vehicle for up to an hour. Please plan your ride accordingly. If you are going to an appointment, be sure to give yourself the extra time based on the details provided when booking your ride.

Brant Transit does not provide specific pick-up and drop off times

When booking a ride, you will be provided with a pick-up window. The driver may arrive anytime during that window, and you will receive a ride notification reminder via your preferred method of communication. Depending on if you chose the arrive by or depart at option, you may still spend up to an hour in the vehicle. You are not required to accept the proposal that is provided to you. Please review the ride option details carefully before booking.

Your requested ride time may not be available

If the time you are requesting isn’t available, you will be provided with alternative times. You are not required to accept the proposal that is provided to you. Please review ride options before booking. There may be days and times that rides are not available. If this is the case, you will need to find alternate transportation.

Brant Transit drivers do not provide mobility or payment support

Brant Transit drivers do not provide mobility or payment support to riders. If you require assistance getting to and from the vehicle, or assistance in handling money or a punch card to pay for your ride, it is encouraged that you travel with a support person (free of charge).

Please follow the rules of the road

Riders are required to follow the rules of the road when using Brant Transit. Always remaining seated and wearing a seat belt while the vehicle is in motion are examples.

Beginning, October 5, Brant Transit will change booking timelines. These changes will help reduce cancellations, make better use of available seats, and provide riders with greater certainty about their trips and a more accessible booking process.

Trips can be booked up to five (5) days in advance
The current 14-day advance booking window will be reduced to five (5) days. Currently, riders can book trips up to two (2) weeks in advance; however, this disadvantages riders who do not, or cannot know their plans (work schedules, appointments, etc.) that far in advance, creating inequitable access to rides. In addition, as riders’ travel dates approach, some of these early bookings are cancelled or changed while others are placed on a waitlist. By shortening the booking window from 14 to 5 days, trips will be booked when riders' plans are more certain, freeing up seats for those who need them and reducing trip cancellations and changes.

Booking will open later at 6:00 am daily
Currently, new booking dates become available at 12 midnight. Not only is moving the opening time to 6:00 am more convenient, but it also enables riders using the app or calling our support line to have the same opportunity to reserve rides when a new booking window opens.

Daily booking cutoff will move earlier to 6:00 pm the day before travel
The current cutoff of 9:00 pm will move earlier to 6:00 pm. Closing bookings earlier allows Brant Transit to finalize the next day’s schedule sooner and begin accommodating as many wait-listed trips as possible. This change also means riders on the waitlist will receive updates earlier in the evening, giving them more time to plan for the following day.

The late cancellation period will begin earlier at 6:00 pm daily
To align with the new booking cutoff and waitlist process, cancellations made after 6:00 pm the day before a scheduled trip will be considered late and subject to the late cancellation policy. This change is important – when a rider cancels after the waitlist has already been processed, it may be too late to offer that rider’s seat to someone on the waitlist.

Why are we making these changes?
Transit demand is growing, and while many can secure bookings, other riders are unable to get a trip through the waitlist. Cancellations and booking changes can leave available seats unused.

These changes will help reduce unnecessary cancellations and schedule changes, provide fairer and more convenient access to bookings, make better use of the service, and give riders greater certainty about their travel.

We recognize that these changes may require an adjustment, particularly for riders who routinely book far in advance. While this now means booking closer to your intended travel date, we believe reducing schedule changes and making better use of available seats will create a more reliable service for all riders.

In addition, we are looking at other ways to improve Brant Transit, including increasing capacity to offer more rides. Please look for opportunities to participate in consultations that can inform potential service enhancements that make our public transportation more responsive to your needs.

Bookings made before October 5, 2026, will be honoured.

Important Booking Information

  • No recurring rides. You can still book more than one ride, but you will need to book each ride separately
  • Same-day rides not available. Bookings for the following day close daily at 9:00 pm
  • Riders are required to plan in advance when using Brant Transit, as well as be flexible when looking for booking options. When riders book, they can select “Arrive by” (to their destination) or “Depart at” (from their pick-up location) as their trip option. When a ride is requested, the system will find the best available option within a two-hour search window and then provide a narrower 30-minute pick up window to accommodate Arrive by or Depart at times, as best as possible and based on the other rides already booked. Remember, you will receive ride notifications (either via phone or text) and with the new app you can also track your ride for greater convenience! Like all public transportation services, riders will need to be prepared for their ride.
