Rural Prosperity Community Improvement Plan

The Rural Prosperity Community Improvement Plan (RPCIP) supports rural businesses, farms, and communities across the County of Brant. This program offers financial incentives to encourage investment, innovation, diversification, and long-term sustainability in rural areas.

What this program supports

Funding may be available for projects such as: 

  • On-Farm Diversified Uses (OFDUs) - Property owners must have a Farm Business Registration (FBR) number and must meet the intent of the County of Brant's OFDU policies as related to the Official Plan and Provincial Policy Statement. 
  • Additional Residential Units (ARUs) -  Property owners must have a Farm Business Registration (FBR) number and conform with the policies as defined by the Province of Ontario and the County of Brant's Official Plan. 
  • Hamlets and Villages - Commercial and Community Benefiting Uses - Properties designated as Rural Hamlets and Villages that are commercial, institutional, or mixed use. 
  • Rural Tourism Businesses - Brick and Mortar businesses that are lawfully established and contribute to the overall tourism sector in rural areas. These properties must be lawfully established and in full compliance with the County of Brant's Zoning By Law. 

Eligibility varies depending on the project and property.

Available funding

The RPCIP offers several grant programs, including:

  • Façade Improvement Grant
  • Signage Improvement Grant
  • Property and Private Parking Area Improvement Grant
  • Application Fee Grant
  • Adaptive Commercial Reuse Grant
  • Housing/Residential Unit Improvement Grant

Funding typically covers a portion of eligible project costs.

Important to know

  • Funding is limited and subject to Council approval
  • Projects must be approved before physical work begins
  • Not all properties or projects will qualify
  • All applications must meet County policies and regulations
  • Applicants applying for On-Farm Diversified Uses or Additional Residential Uses must have a Farm Business Registration (FBR) number.

How to Apply

Step 1: Contact us! Before applying, you must speak with staff to review your project and confirm eligibility.

Step 2: Submit an application. If eligible, staff will guide you through the application process and required materials.

Step 3: Approval and agreement. Applications are reviewed and approved before any work can begin.

Step 4: Complete the project and receive funding. Funding is provided after the project is complete and meets program requirements.
