Since 2016 the County of Brant has been running a very active drone program. The Business Solutions team works closely with County departments to provide flight missions that assist with projects, surveys, volume calculations, and construction projects to name a few.

Over the 7 years of use, the team continues to find new and innovative ways to use this growing technology, to best serve the corporation.

All County of Brant Drone Pilots have successfully completed the required examination by Transport Canada’s Remote Piloted Aircraft System program, each pilot possesses a ‘Advanced Operations - Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems License’.

In addition to holding an ‘Advanced Operations - Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems License’ all County of Brant Drone pilots follow all Operating and Flight Rules standards as laid out in the Canadian Aviation Regulations. Part IX — Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems and the pilots understand and respect the privacy laws when using drones in the County of Brant, please refer to the Privacy Guidelines.

All Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), commonly referred to as Drones are registered with and labelled in accordance with Transport Canada rules and regulations.

The County of Brant utilizes several different platforms within the drone program. The main workhorse of the program would be the DJI M300 RTK unit. This drone unit provides a flexible configuration to handle several different payloads depending on the mission to be flown.
