Downtown Dig Business Support Initiatives

The County of Brant remains committed to supporting Downtown Paris businesses throughout the Downtown Dig infrastructure project. Since 2024, staff have worked closely with local businesses, the Downtown Paris BIA, community partners and funding agencies to help minimize construction impacts and encourage residents and visitors to continue shopping local.

Support initiatives have included dedicated business support staff, enhanced marketing and promotional campaigns, business directories and signage, funding opportunities, community events, walking tours and ongoing business engagement. The County has invested approximately $150,000 in mitigation efforts and secured additional external funding to support downtown programming and business activation.

Despite construction challenges, Downtown Paris continues to demonstrate resilience and growth. Since the beginning of 2025, 12 new businesses have opened downtown, including six in 2026, while vacancy rates have declined from 6.7% in 2024 to 3.3% in both 2025 and 2026. Community Improvement Plan (CIP) participation has also reached record levels, generating significant private-sector investment in downtown improvements.

Support efforts continue in 2026 through enhanced communications, marketing initiatives, business engagement activities, the return of Tasty Road Trips walking tours, the launch of the Downtown Paris Promenade and expanded community events.

On June 23, 2026, County Council also approved $30,000 in funding for the Downtown Paris BIA to support additional marketing initiatives.
