City of Brantford and County of Brant pause proposed Brantford Airport Boundary Adjustment process

City of Brantford and County of Brant officials have jointly agreed to pause consideration of the proposed municipal boundary adjustment involving the Brantford Municipal Airport and surrounding lands.

Earlier this year, with the assistance of the Office of the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator, the City and County reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining proposed terms for a boundary adjustment that would bring the City-owned Airport and adjoining lands into the City of Brantford's municipal boundary. The initiative was driven by the City's long-standing goal of aligning municipal jurisdiction with its existing ownership and operational responsibility for the Airport and positioning the Airport for a financially strong and sustainable future.

City and County staff have been working diligently to finalize the restructuring agreement that would be required to submit a restructuring proposal to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. However, with the restricted period preceding the start of the municipal election process quickly approaching, there is insufficient time to finalize the agreement and its associated components and provide the public with adequate opportunity to review them before a decision would need to be made. In recognition of this, both municipalities have agreed to pause the initiative.

City of Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis and County of Brant Mayor David Bailey express their sincere appreciation to the Office of the Provincial Land and Development Facilitator, the Honourable Robert Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Ministry staff, and the dedicated staff of both the City and the County for their considerable work on this matter. Mayor Davis, Mayor Bailey, and officials from both municipalities share the view that the substantial work completed to date will serve as a strong basis for future discussions on the long-term success of the Airport and continued collaboration between the two municipalities.
