Adopt-A-Road

Help make a positive impact on our local environment by joining the Adopt-A-Road program. This community initiative invites individuals, businesses, schools, and organizations to “adopt” a section of roadway and commit to keeping it clean and litter-free. By volunteering just a few hours each year, you can help protect our natural spaces, enhance the appearance of our roadsides, and show pride in our community.

Get involved!

The Adopt-A-Road program is for volunteers to assist with beautification activities along the roads. Here's how it works:

  • Choose a section of road, typically 1 to 5 kilometers in length
    • Are there any potential pedestrian safety/visibility issues with this site?
    • Is there another Adopt-A-Road group in this area?
  • Commit to at least 3 clean-ups per year, between April 15 and November 15
  • There is no cost to the Adopt-A-Road volunteers

Volunteer requirements:

  • Individuals under 12 years of age are not permitted on the worksite unless special arrangements have been made with the County of Brant Adopt-A-Road representative
  • Youths (12-18 years of age) require signed permission from a parent or guardian
  • One adult over 19 years of age is required for every five/six youths
  • Work during daylight hours only, no sooner than one hour after sunrise and no later than one hour before sunset
  • No work is to occur on long weekends, during peak traffic hours, during the County's winter maintenance season November 16 to April 14, or any other times as specified
  • No work is to occur during bad weather conditions such as rain, fog or lightning
  • Volunteers must arrange a meeting location and then carpool to the worksite
  • Volunteers must have a cell phone available in case of an emergency
  • Volunteers must establish an adult Site Supervisor (19 years of age or older). There should always be one Site Supervisor for each crew (five/six workers)
  • Volunteers must have received the safety training and should review the safety rules prior to heading to the worksite
