Snow Removal Resources

Winter can be challenging for seniors and residents who need help clearing snow. Arranging assistance before the snow arrives can help keep walkways and entrances clear throughout the season.

Need a hand with snow removal?

If you need help clearing your driveway, steps or walkway, consider these ways to find assistance:

  • Ask neighbours or local youth. Someone nearby may be willing to help or looking for snow shovelling work.
  • Check community social media groups. Look for people offering snow removal services or post a request for help.
  • Use community bulletin boards. Ask about posting a notice at a school, church or community centre.
  • Contact local businesses. Snow removal and landscaping companies may offer one-time or seasonal services.

Make a plan together

Before making arrangements, discuss:

  • Which areas need clearing, such as steps, entrances, walkways or driveways.
  • When snow will be cleared after a snowfall.
  • Whether salting or sanding is included.
  • The cost, if any, and how payment will be made.
  • How you will contact each other if plans change.

Arrange a backup where possible so you have someone to contact if your usual helper is unavailable.

Lend a hand to a neighbour

A little help can make a big difference for someone who finds snow removal difficult. If you’re able to help, check in with a neighbour and ask what they need.

Whether you help after one snowfall or throughout the winter, clearing a path can help neighbours get in and out of their homes more easily.
