Water and Wastewater Rates

The County of Brant strives to maintain efficient and cost-effective municipal water and wastewater systems.

The funding for the operation and maintenance of the municipal water and wastewater systems comes directly from the Water and Wastewater Rates paid by the consumers of the systems. Property tax is not allocated towards this funding. The rate structure consists of a fixed monthly fee, specific to meter size and a humpback volumetric rate, where fees change at usage milestones. Savings can be realized by minimizing your monthly water usage.

Fixed Monthly Rates

The fixed charge applies even if you have not used any water. The fixed costs include meter reading, billing, customer service, repair, and maintenance costs.

Extended Water Shut-off

Consumers who will be away for an extended period, or who otherwise will not be using water, may request an Extended Water Shut-off reduced rate through GrandBridge Energy.

To qualify, homeowners must:

• Shut off the mainline valve inside their home before leaving
• Provide GrandBridge Energy with a photo of the water meter showing the shut-off status and meter reading

Once approved, the account will be billed at 75% of the fixed monthly water charge for the duration of the shut-off period. 

Water and Wastewater Fixed Monthly Rates

Volumetric Rates (per cubic meter – m³)

These charges are based on water consumption, measured by the water meter. The cost of water used is based on a charge per cubic meter (m³). To encourage residential consumers to conserve water, especially during the summer months, a Seasonal Premium (increased rate) is applied to residential consumers using more than 45 cubic meters per month from May 1 to August 31 each year.
