Explore, Learn and Get Involved: Brant's Archaeological Management Plan

The County of Brant is developing its first Archaeological Management Plan, or AMP, to help identify, understand and protect important archaeological and cultural heritage resources across Brant.

The lands that make up Brant have a long and rich history, including more than 10,000 years of Indigenous history. The AMP will help ensure archaeological resources and places of cultural significance are considered and protected as our communities grow and change.

The plan will also help the County identify areas where archaeological resources may be located. This will support land use planning and development decisions, help protect important pieces of our shared history, and create a clearer and more efficient planning process.

Throughout the project, the County will work with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation and Six Nations of the Grand River to help inform how Indigenous archaeological and cultural heritage resources are understood and protected. We will also gather local historical knowledge and community perspectives to help inform the plan.

First, we’re digging in to learn more.

From now until the end of December, we’ll share interesting facts about archaeology in Brant, explore what we can learn from the past and, explain what an AMP is and how it can help protect archaeological resources as our communities grow.

Then, we’ll invite you to be part of the conversation. Opportunities to share your knowledge and perspectives will follow as the project moves forward.
