Council Passes Community Planning Permit System Framework
At its meeting on July 28, 2026, County of Brant Council approved the Official Plan Amendment (By-law 83-26) and Community Planning Permit By-law (By-law 84-26), marking a major milestone in the Community Planning Permit System (CPPS) project.
The CPPS introduces a modern, made-in-Brant planning framework that brings zoning, site plan control, and minor variance functions together in a single, integrated system.
Next Steps
While Council has approved the by-laws, the CPPS is not yet in effect. The appeal period runs until 4:00 p.m. on August 17, 2026. If no appeals are filed, the CPPS is expected to come into force on August 22, 2026. If an appeal is filed, the by-law will be forwarded to the Ontario Land Tribunal and will not come into effect until the appeal is resolved.
