Friendly Reminder - Beware of Driveway Scams

The County of Brant wants to remind residents to be wary of driveway scammers who often travel door to door offering driveway paving or resurfacing services.

Contractors will often provide quotes for services that appear to be better than competitive prices. Once a deal is struck, the contractor will request a cash down payment. Initial work may start quickly on the project, however, the work may be sub-par and incomplete. After the initial work is done, the consumer is often approached to provide initial or full payment for the project. Once a payment is received the "contractor" is usually never heard from again, phone calls and emails will go unanswered, leaving the consumer with driveway damage or a partially completed project.

The County of Brant Entrance By-law requires a permit for the construction, modification, paving or repaving for the portion of the entrance that is located on County property in between the roadway and property line.

The County of Brant Business Licensing By-law also requires peddlers offering for-sale goods or services through a specific location sale or by door-to-door sales to obtain a Peddlers License.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the status of a license or would like to submit a complaint, please contact Enforcement Services at 519.44BRANT (442.7268) or emailĀ bylawenforcement@brant.ca
