Time Capsule Buried in Downtown Paris

Earlier today, County of Brant Mayor David Bailey, local students and representatives from Navacon Construction buried a time capsule at Cobblestone Common in downtown Paris, marking another milestone as this phase of the Downtown Dig nears completion.

The time capsule captures a snapshot of our community in 2026 and includes messages from local students sharing their hopes, ideas and questions for future generations.

“Thank you to all of the students who participated by sharing their hopes for the future in the time capsule,” said County of Brant Mayor David Bailey. “Many years from now, I know there will be a lot of excitement when this capsule is opened, and our future residents get to see what children from 2026 had to say about the community and the world they hoped to see.”

The time capsule project began in June, when Grade 5 and 6 classrooms at Paris-area schools were invited to contribute messages and questions for the future. Their submissions provide a unique glimpse into what young people are thinking about today and what they imagine life in the County of Brant may look like years from now.

A permanent sidewalk marker has been installed at Cobblestone Common to identify the location of the time capsule for future generations.

The installation comes as the County enters the final stages of the Downtown Dig (Grand River Street North phase), with completion expected in October 2026. An official opening date will be shared once confirmed.
