Tree Protection

Trees regulate temperature, absorb C02, beautify our parks, provide wildlife habitat, increase property values, contribute to walkable neighbourhoods, and clean our water. These benefits become more prominent when a tree reaches maturity. Tree protection in the early stages of construction planning helps save both trees and property from potential damage.

Technical Tree Guidelines

The County of Brant’s Technical Tree Guidelines establish clear, consistent standards for the protection, planting, removal, maintenance, assessment, and reporting for trees defined as Protected Trees within the County. These guidelines support the implementation of the Tree Enhancement and Protection Policy by outlining arboricultural best practices, including requirements for external contractors conducting tree work and consultants preparing arborist reports. They ensure all tree-related activities align with industry standards and contribute to the County’s goals for urban forest health and long-term sustainability.

** A Protected Tree is defined as any tree located on County property, a designated Heritage Tree, or any tree 10 cm diameter at breast height (DBH) or greater located on lands subject to development, excluding those within the Natural Heritage System.
