The County of Brant Community Forest Strategy provides a comprehensive, long-term framework to guide the protection, management, and expansion of the County’s urban and rural tree canopy over the next ten years. As the County continues to grow and experience increasing climate-related pressures, the Community Forest is recognized as critical green infrastructure that supports biodiversity, climate resilience, public health, and overall community well-being

What is Community Forest?
The Community Forest includes trees, forests, and greenspace that make up the County’s tree canopy. This includes, but is not limited to, trees located on or within roadsides, boulevards, parks, cemeteries, woodlots, and open spaces. Trees that comprise the Community Forest provide a number of research-backed benefits
including:

Contributing to biodiversity and providing wildlife habitat;

Enhancing mental and physical health and well-being of residents;

Providing shade and reducing urban heat islands;

Preventing erosion;
-
Improving infiltration and supporting water quality; and

Sequestering carbon.
